A family departing for holiday have been left shaken after two men attempt to hijack the taxi they were in.

The attempted Hi-Jacking happened at around 5:40 am yesterday morning at Blackthorn Walk on the Howard Estate in the town.

A taxi driver arrived to collect passengers. The driver left the engine running whilst his passengers got into the rear of the vehicle and the driver loaded the luggage into the boot.

A suspect then approached the victim engaged him in conversation. The driver saw his vehicle move forward and realised a second suspect had jumped into the drivers seat.

Luckily the vehicle then stalled which allowed the driver to jump into the passengers seat at which point both suspects made off.
