Police arrest teenagers found with knife and cannabis following disturbance in the Arc

A group of teenage youths were arrested in town on Sunday following an incident in the Arc shopping centre.

Police were called at 11.55am on Sunday 22 September to reports that a group of 6-7 children were causing a disturbance at Costa Coffee at the Arc & tables were being damaged.

An eyewitness said “There was lots of shouting and one of the teenagers threw a bottle of fizzy drink at one of the staff members which hit the window of the shop,”

Officers attended and subsequently arrested a 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy & a 13-year-old girl, all on suspicion of causing harassment, alarm & distress under Section 5 of the Public Order Act.

They were taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where the 12-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place & possession of cannabis.

They have all since been released under investigation pending further inquiries.
