More public toilets to open in Bury St Edmunds

West Suffolk Council have said that they will open more public toilets in Bury St Edmunds following calls for more in the town.

Currently only there are only two lots of public toilets open – both in one end of town – at the Abbey Gardens and Ram Meadow car park. The Arc shopping centre toilets have been shut since the start of lockdown with its bosses telling people “the time is not yet right for a long shopping trip to the centre”.

Local Facebook group “We Really Love Bury St Edmunds” recently called for more toilets to be open in the town centre with many people pointing out the current arrangements make it difficult for those with medical conditions, the elderly, people with young children.

Now West Suffolk Council have said that they will open facilities at the bus in Bury St Edmunds from Monday.

Work is currently under way to get the toilets ready, which will include a fenced corridor and one-way system. The council says that it will keep all measures under review.
