It proved to be an “egg-cellent” Easter for many patients at the West Suffolk Hospital as local groups donated a host of gifts from chocolate rabbits and eggs to books and games.

They all came courtesy of four groups including pupils from King Edward VI School, in Bury StEdmunds, the Haverhill Lions, Tesco Express on Moreton Hall and UK Power Networks, in Barton Road.

 

Year 7 students Hollie Brown and Lola Ray collected Easter eggs and Easter-inspired gifts for the children’s ward as part of their Pixl Edge (Partners in Excellence) project, which is a leadership scheme aimed at equipping students with the skills, knowledge and competencies, distinct from their academic work, that will help them succeed in the future.

Hollie, 11, and Lola, 12, linked up with the My WiSH Charity, and bought them in and delivered them to the paediatric emergency department. Hollie’s mother Kate, who is head of visual arts at the school, took them to the hospital and

said the pair had put up posters round the school and asked for donations and then collated all the money to purchase a huge hamper which contained chocolates, sweets and activity books”.

The Lions bought in chocolate Easter rabbits for the Rainbow ward.

Tesco Express, in Lawson Place, had an Easter Egg collection in store and they collected so many eggs that they were delivered to the x-ray department and also G4, the dementia ward.

Finally, UK Power Networks came in and bought Easter eggs, books, colouring pens and games for the Rainbow Ward.

Amy Hatch, fundraising officer for My WiSH Charity, said: “It is just amazing the support we have had this Easter. To be able to deliver eggs to so many different departments is just fantastic and makes a real difference to our patients.”
