Bury Town youngsters run 65 miles for charity

Thirteen boys from the Bury Town Lions under 13’s team have helped to raisemoneytowards the care and well being of children at the West Suffolk Hospital.

The boys ran 50 miles round Hardwick Heath in aid of the My WiSH Charity’s WiSH Upon A Star appeal. The money will be used to purchase some specialist stairs for the physio department to aid the young patient’s recovery.

Amy Hatch, the fundraising officer for My WiSH, said: “The boys did an absolutely amazing job; not only did they complete their challenge they exceeded it byrunning a whopping 65miles.

Philip Brown, the under 13s coach, said that “It is always very difficult to see kids in hospital and if we can help to make their stay more comfortable or quicker, then we have done a very good thing.

“The boys in the team will also benefit from being involved in such a great cause and hopefully it was an activity that they can repeat throughout their lives. Helping others.

“We got agreement from their parents for them to carry out the run and some of them joined in and we ran a total of 65 miles. We wanted the money to go towards helping the children at the hospital in some way.”
