Bury St Edmunds town centre footfall drops 16% compared to same period last year

Mark Cordell OurBuryStEdmunds CEO hopes the drop will be a temporary “blip”

The number of people visiting the town centre last month has taken a dramatic drop compared to the same time last year.

February saw a 16% drop in the footfall in the town centre, compared to the same time in 2019, according to data from Business Improvement District OurBuryStEdmunds.

Mark Cordell Chief Executive of the BID said that the drop in visitors is most likely because of a combination of “bad weather, roadworks on Angel Hill & the Corona virus”.

He went on to say that the Footfall is still double both local and national averages.
