B52 Safely lands at Mildenhall following engine problems

Bury St Edmunds was treated to a B52 display yesterday evening following a mid air emergency.

Residents reported spotting the B52 circling several times over Bury as it burnt off fuel before making an emergency landing at RAF Mildenhall early evening.

On landing, it deployed its parachute and had its engine sprayed in foam as a precaution.

One Bury resident said they were concerned to see smoke coming from the aircraft and one plane enthusiast on social media commented “I am so happy to see an actual B52 show up on 360 radar – tracking the 2nd one continuing on to USA”!

It is not thought that anyone was injured during the incident.
